Happy Thanksgiving, dear reader friends! I hope you are all celebrating today, and this week, with the people you love.

Since childhood, Thanksgiving has been special to me. But I’ve struggled with the roots of the Thanksgiving story–mostly, with what came after that 1621 meal between the Pilgrims and the Wampanoag people. At (almost) middle age, I think I’ve finally come to terms with it. So this, and more, is what I’m contemplating in my newspaper column this week.
