My column over the Fourth of July/ Independence Day week was about all the many, and different, reasons we Americans put out our flags.

I tried to post it last week, but was at a mountain lake with spotty Internet access. I sure hope you all had a wonderful Independence Day holiday. Happy Belated Birthday, America!
